Puzzle by Leonard Williams, edited by Will Shortz
ERAS (14A. Historic periods) are left hanging by today’s four interrelated entries -- BACKINTHEDAY (41. Mom’s start), INYEARSGONEBY (56. Legend’s start), ONCEUPONATIME (20. Fairy tale’s start), WHENIWASABOY (34.Grandpa’s start) -- leaving the solver to supply the narrative.
Plenty of material awaits. ANAEROBE (11D. Bacterium that doesn’t need oxygen) and SCIMITAR (38D. Curved saber) are spelling-bee worthy, but will spell themselves from the arosses. Four seven-letter entries, AUSTRIA (9D. Where Schwarzenegger was born), DEIGNED (44D. Condescended), NOSEOUT (43D. Barely beat) and VAMPIRE (5D. Anne Rice’s Lestat, for one) complete the roster of longer entries.

The puzzle was easy - this is Tuesday. And while I'm listening to The Dead - Jerry (Cherry) Garcia is the first answer I got. And the Persistence of memory is currently on exhibit at MOMA with the Dali exhibition. Great movies and very interesting.
ReplyDeleteFollowing up on my reply to your previous comment, this was the first opportunity to get Dali's Persistence of Memory into a daily posting -- however, it is shamelessly the second time I've used it -- the last time a year ago August -- 08.05.07 -- TIME -- the Acrostic.
ReplyDeletePerhaps it can be an annual event!
You can even link the Marx Brothers, specifically Harpo, into any Dali affiliation. They worked together and there is some info about their collaboration at the MOMA exhibit.
