E = start to “embellish”, handle = name; reverse of “dell” (as in Sleepy Hollow)…

And can you explain how O + LAY equates to love song in 4 down? I get that reverend returning is VER but don't get the rest.

I got them from all the other letters, but I am totally frozen trying to work out the CAIMAN (2D) and MONASTERY (23A) clues. (Strange because all the rest fell into place!)

Oops! Never mind the Caiman one - I see it's AIM guarded by CAN. Silly me. Monastery is still stumping me though. Thanks in advance ;)
