A shade is when you add either white or black to a color. When you add black to black you have black. When you add white to black you have grey. White and black have no shades, hues, tints or tones. I promise never to write a book called Fifty Shades of Black. Lewis Black can title his autobiography that if he wishes. If you use lip gloss you are changing the finish, not changing shades.
