Critics will likely make note that the long interrelated entries are unorthodox downs, citing same as adding seconds to their precious solving time! HASTE and PDQ (26A. Speediness, 33A. Pronto)!
Of other interest — 27-Across with the long clue of Kwame NKRUMAH, advocate of pan-Africanism and the first P.M. of Ghana might have gone on even a little longer to note that he was also the last, as the position was abolished at the end of his term! ISHTAR (21A. Film bomb of 1987) gets its standard derogatory clue. BLOTTO and GUSTO (31A. Stewed to the gills, 20D. Zest) cross mid-puzzle, as do LIU and LIEU (35A. Lucy of “Kill Bill”, 32D. Place).
